Empowered Women International 20th Birthday The Changemakers Reunion, 2022

A Lifelong Passion for Women’s Empowerment

Marga started her first non-profit to empower survivors of domestic violence in her native country, Romania, at the age of 23. Through her organization’s advocacy efforts, Romania was the first country in Eastern Europe to pass Legislation Against Domestic Violence in 2003.

After immigrating to the U.S. in 2001 to save the life of her newborn son, Arthur, who suffered a stroke at birth in Romania, she founded and led Empowered Women International. For 14 years Marga empowered thousands of immigrant and low-income women and families to grow resilient through adversity, start and grow businesses, and develop community, sisterhood, and belonging.

Marga spoke nationally and internationally on resilience, entrepreneurship, and women’s empowerment in the United States, Switzerland, Romania, Slovakia, Barbados, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands. She has been honored as a 2015 Living Legend of Alexandria, USA, and one of Maryland’s Leading Women: 50 Women under 40 by the Daily Record 2012.
